The five best rides around Shkodra
Lake shore, river plain and castle hill — five routes you can ride from the centre of Shkodra on a single battery charge.
Shkodra sits where a lake, two rivers and a mountain road meet, which makes it unusually good for riding. Every route below starts in the centre and comes back on the same battery.
Along the lake to Shirokë
Flat, paved and shaded for most of its length. Fifteen kilometres out, a line of fish restaurants on the water, then the same road back as the light drops.
Up to Rozafa Castle
A short, steep climb that the motor turns into a pleasant one. The view over the Buna, the Drin and the lake from the walls is the best in the region.
The Buna river plain
Quiet farm lanes, almost no traffic and a horizon of mountains on three sides. Good in the early morning.
Zogaj and the far shore
Past Shirokë the road narrows and the crowds vanish. Turn back at Zogaj or push on toward the Montenegrin border.
Velipojë and the coast
The longest of the five and the only one that needs planning. Set out early, take a spare charge and make a day of it.
